Remember, the council want you to be successful - local businesses keep the money in the community and pay rates, keep shops occupied, use other local businesses, etc., so they're not unreasonable if you're trying to run a legally compliant business.

HMRC are actually generally decent and helpful, too. They want you to pay the right tax, not too little nor too much, and will frequently help if you ask.

    pay rates, keep shops occupied,

These are 2 things OP's business won't do as it's a mobile shop.
If you are querying your Council Tax band would you please state whether you are in England, Scotland or Wales

I haven't seen much evidence of that in my local city, the one easy way into starting your own retail business has been pretty much killed off by the local council. But hey we have a shiny new shopping centre to replace the market with exactly the same shops as every other shopping precinct across the country.

Good luck OP, I use a mobile fishmongers and he is doing well. Its not much more expensive than the supermarket, but the quality is far beyond what you find in a supermarket and I would rather spend my money with him than a big corporate.

Any business that gets going local to us does so in spite of the council, not with the aid of.

According to the front page of the local rag, I spotted at lunchtime it looks like the council are taking over parking enforcement from the Police and are doubling the parking charges.

The city centre has been decimated of independent shops and this won't help, especially as they only seem to hire morons with zero commercial acumen.

Yeah, our local council suffered a fall in car park revenue the last time they increased the charges, as inevitably people started going elsewhere to shop. So what was their answer? Increase the parking charges even more to try to recoup the lost revenue - totally in denial that even more people will go elsewhere! Muppets!
