How to check if I've been used as a guarantor

Hi all,

I really hope someone can help. I've recently been asked if I would be a guarantor for a family member but has said no. Since then they have done onto a large PPI claim of £8k, which we didn't think anything of, but recently we've now been told they are due another even larger payout on another PPI clam they knew nothing about.
It was until today that we started thinking a long the lines of lies and if I had been used as a guarantor without my knowledge.
Is there a way (credit check) that I can see if this is the case?

So advice in this would be wonderful.

Cheers

If you are a guarantor for a loan then, in most if not all cases, it will also show on your credit file. So best to order the 2 pounds report from the 3 major agencies and look there. But it is unlikely as most guarantor loans are paid out to the guarantors account to avoid potential abuse like that (not bullet proof, but sure makes it harder to do).
  • All guarantor companies will call the guarantor to verify their identity, plus they will only pay the loan into the guarantors account.

If someone has pretended to be you and managed to get past all the checks you will need to go to the police and make a report about the fraudulent application.
