Any Recommendation for Travel Insurance?

Options
Just want single trip insurance to Europe but after reading reviews, can't seem to identify a decent company that:

a) Will answer the phone for anything other than taking money
b) Will actually pay out in the event of a claim

Have looked at Puffin, Just Travel, Virgin Money, Saga, Get Going. A lot of the good reviews are simply that the reviewer used the website and got a cheap quote but the bad reviews are when people had a problem or needed to claim which is the real test of a 'good' company.

I'm more interested in decent cover in the event of a medical problem and having a hassle-free service than insuring our belongings which don't amount to much.

I like Aegis, they used to do the Post Office Policy, not sure if they do still or PJ Haymen do a good policy which includes new for old on personal effects (Most deduct wear and tear)

I had absolutely no problems with Insurefor.com when I had to make a claim for over £1000 for pneumonia that I suffered on a Caribbean cruise a few years ago and customer services were excellent (As an aside if you going to get ill on holiday then a P&O cruise ship is not a bad place for it to happen - facilities were excellent and treatment was rapid and first rate and because I was on board I didn't need to be hospitalised which I would if I had been on land).

Fortunately not had to make any other travel insurance claims since so can't comment on claims process of any others but have been happy with price and cover, given pre-existing conditions, with JustTravelCover, Coverwise, Explorer and Southdown (need to pick and choose as some are cheaper than others for different destinations)

I went with Liverpool Victoria in the end. They seem reasonably honourable as far as I can make out and although double the cheapest quote they were well under half the cost of some other quotes and less than Thomson's own (the holiday company I booked with).

All the cheaper ones I investigated had terrible reviews from people who had actually needed to claim. There's no point buying a cheap policy and finding they won't help if you are suddenly taken ill abroad.
