Hi.
I have a certain windows .doc that doesn't show up in my list of 'recent files'. Others do. It has a very simple password associated, if that matters.
Is there a reason for this one file not showing and is there a way to force it to show?
Thanks.

I wonder if having an associated password has classified the file as 'hidden'. If so, changing the folder view options to Show Hidden Files may reveal it.... DaveHappily retired and enjoying my 14th year of leisureI am cleverly disguised as a responsible adult.Bring me sunshine in your smile0

Thanks but no it's not that. I created a new password protected doc and it showed up.
Actually I've just been playing about with this and ignoring passwords for a moment, I've found that if I create a new doc, it shows up in recent files. But if I then choose to remove it from the list of recent files, it never shows up ever again, even if I open it up later and make changes to it. Seems reasonable I suppose. It would be annoying for it to keep coming back onto the list, each time you opened/closed it, if you'd decided to remove it. Perhaps I decided to remove it from the list in the past.
So, if that is correct, is there no way to allow it to reappear in the list, one it had been removed?0 -

Thanks. I've had a look at both links you gave, hoping that they might shed some light. But no, both must have been made prior to my version of windows, 'cos I can't find anything the things where they say they are. (eg there is no Start Menu tab in Control Panel/Taskbar and Navigation in my version).
Never mind, I'm not going to chase my tail on this one (like I've done with others before). I'll just accept that once a file is removed from Recent Files, it will never again appear in that list.
BTW, my Recent Files list currently shows 19 items.
Thanks again.0 -
Can you find the file in another Explorer window then drag it to the Recent Files folder? That folder is basically like Favorites ... so dragging it over might put a shortcut to it in there.0

What is a Windows.doc file? Do you mean Word? What version of word? In 2013, there are 9 recent files down the LHS and 25 under recent files in the centre of the screen. I am on Windows 7 but Word 2013 would look the same I believe.0

Ta but no I can't do that. When I drag, the little icon has a 'no entry' indicator at the bottom and won't let me drag the file into the Recent Files area.0 -

Sorry. Yes it's a Microsoft Word document. Actually it was created using Word but I now use Libre Office.
Anyway, having thought about it I'm happy with the current situation.
Thanks for all the help folks.0 -
Is this the Recent Files list which first appears when you open File Explorer in Windows 10? (A new feature not there in earlier Windows versions?)
What happens if you:- go into File Explorer
- select View from the ribbon, then Options, then Change Folder and Search Options
- in the Privacy section at the bottom of the Privacy tab, where it says 'Clear File Explorer History', press the 'Clear' button
- This should clear all Recent Files, but hopefully when you go back to the document, it might reappear

Yes it is. OK, I'll try your suggestion tomorrow. Ta.0
