GBenergysupply

This company signed me up on a good tariff and immediately switched me without permission or notice to a poor one.
Anyone else had this problem?

Well considering the majority of GB Energy's tariffs are "good" in the grand scale of things...

So what did you sign up to? Dual fuel? Electric only? Which tariff? And what tariff have you switched to?

Topaz is the cheapest for me but only £5.51 cheaper per year than their Premium Energy Saver. OP - more information required please.

I'm on their Sapphire tariff, Topaz is about £12 a year cheaper so which one did you actually ask for and what have they given you.

As there's no penalty for leaving or changing tariff, just ask them to move you onto the one you want

No I don't think I've had the problem you describe.

Would you care to enlighten us further?

My guess, and it is only a guess, is that the OP has failed to notice that on their fixed tariffs GBEnergy charges more per month during the Winter months, and less per month in summer.

Hengus, do you mean the actual prices change summer/winter or just the payment amount changes?

Just the payments. The overall cost is as per the annual projection based on kWhs usage. They are FIXED price contracts so the standing charge and unit prices cannot be varied during the contract term.

GB is doing this to manage its cashflow as suppliers have to buy energy in advance of supply. If variable monthly charging is upfront, then I have no difficulty with it if it means that I get the lowest price electricity on the market for my region and usage.

  • When I receive and agree a contract I expect it to be honoured. After 8 emails back and forth they have now apologized though frankly I just think they were trying it on. I have now switched away. Yes I do know the difference between a tariff and my dd payments

That is of course your right. For the benefit of MSErs, could you explain exactly what GBEnergy has done that has annoyed you so much? They have 4 tariffs that are very similar in price so I am confused.

I agree with Hengus, the details provided are very sparse and confusing.

To help others, it would be nice to know:

What tariff did you sign up to and what tariff were you put on?

Did this happen from the time of the switch or subsequent to it?

In their responses to your complaint, what explanation did they offer? For example, what triggered the change?

GB Energy are a relatively new Supplier with encouragingly competitive prices for electricity, so your feedback on this glitch is useful to understand how robust their back office operation is.

I personally doubt that they 'tried it on'. Any price difference is likely to be quite small and the obvious customer service and complaint process costly. I imagine some sort of administration error, which is what would be useful to understand.
