Crunchy Nut - ludicrously tasty and ludicrously expensive!

My mother (bear with me.....) never eats one cereal on it's own, instead she may have a bowl with (say) one weetabix, some museli and some cornflakes in it .... this has earnt the title 'A Grandma Special' in our household. Therefore when we have a very tasty (but invariably unhealthy and probably expensive) cereal in the house 'as a treat', it can only be eaten as part of a Grandma Special.....
Eeks it out and creates a healthier (well, improved) breakfast...0 -
We have the tescos ones and I cant find any difference to the kelloggs ones.
Although the crunchy nut nuttier or clusters, OMG that is lovely but Im on a diet and cant have any thing like this at all so im not even thinking about it ( yeah right) Well aint funny how its the little things in life that mean the most? Not where you live, the car you drive or the price tag on your clothes.
Theres no dollar sign on piece of mind
This Ive come to know...
So if you agree have a drink with me, raise your glasses for a toast :beer:0 -

We do this - though not called a grandma special - it also means that the really cheap ones that nobody especially likes but which were on special offer get eaten!2009 winnings: private box at the ballet, a cooking lesson with Jean Christophe Novelli, a case of wine, £25 itunes downloads, a candle, Football Manager PC game, a lipstick, £2500 -
Hubby is addicted, have tried all own shop brands, nothing like the original.
We stock up when they're on for £2 per box, but other than that, £2.58 per box, once or twice a month."I did then, what I knew then. And when I knew better, I did better"0 -
I make up my own muesli with rolled oats and any fruit, nuts and seeds offers I can find

We have the Tesco ones and they taste fine - better than the Kelloggs ones in my opinion. DD has them as part of a mix, along with rice krispies (Tesco's own!) and cheerios (again, Tesco's own!). It's the only way I can get her to eat breakfast at the moment - she'll be 3 in December and is going through a very faddy phase right now!

whilst we're on the subject of cereals, I really do like the new Weetabix ads on the telly: we all know it's quite a bland cereal, but very good for you, and the ads do actually make it look tastyBLOODBATH IN THE EVENING THEN? OR PERHAPS THE AFTERNOON? OR THE MORNING? OH, FORGET THIS MALARKEY!

A difficult one as kids can be so ... well you know!
I would come to some kind of deal. Maybe cnc/flakes on weetabix - or cnc/flakes at the weekend.0 -
morrisons do there own version for 95p a box. taste very similar from what i can rememeber as it been a long time now since i bought the kellogs one's.
don't buy them often tho as full of sugar but i do love them every now and then.0 -
Tried Tesco and ASDA own brand Honey Nut Corn Flakes over the last few years and both tasted fine to me. Not a particularly hard recipe to replicate if using similar quailty ingredients.
It could be made healthier (More fibre, lower GI, slightly fewer calories etc) by mixing with Bran Flakes, Fruit and Fibre or Muesli. Morrisons actually did sell their own Honey Nut Bran Flakes at one point, but not sure if they still do - they were really nice too and occasionally BOGOF. Then of course there is Honey Nut Shredded Wheat which is usually in promotions, but generally quite expensive for what you get.0
