Sorry to drag up an ancient thread, but I just wanted to say this has been really useful for me to read. My cat, who is almost 8, has been on Felimazole for about 18 months. He is, however, still losing weight and so the vet has suggested a thyroidectomy (given his failry young age, she doesn't think it's good for him to be on lifelong medication).
I am prepared to accept her advice and go for the operation. What I wondered, though - if we have it done in two stages a month or two apart, does it count as one operation for insurance purposes? My policy only allows one claim per year for the same condition. My view is that it's all one course of treatment, albeit in instalments - but I fear the insurers won't see it the same way!
