Short-term Breakdown/Recovery for Europe (Guernsey!)

Anyone recommend a good deal, im only going as far as Guernsey!

Schoolboy error, although my directline insurance covers me in the channel island, my Green Flag recovery doesn't, and counts Guernsey as Europe (I'll not make that mistake when I renew this year)

I'm only in Guernsey for a week, so not looking for anything special, just the basics, any tips much appreciated

I think you might as well pay a local tow truck if & when you have a breakdown. They aren't going to be towing you far in Guernsey. :)

Even if you did buy a policy now, I don't expect it would recover your car to the UK would it?

BTW, the AA operate in the Channel Islands AFAIK on your UK membership.

Were you expecting your breakdown cover to treat Guernsey as the UK? It isn't part of the UK. There may be substantial costs if the car needs repatriating to this country.

I'd second jk0's suggestion - you're unlikely to have a problem a long way from anywhere and incur substantial towing costs.

Yeah that's something to bear in mind for future

If I can get one that repatriates me then it would be worth it, if not then I'll take my chance. It's ok saying you're never far but if it breaks down on the morning I'm heading for the ferry ......

What age is your car? There's often a fairly low maximum. Repatriation costs are also capped at the market value of the vehicle, too, unless there's an explicit maximum amount (which would typically apply to every vehicle).

Is it even worth taking a car to Guernsey? I don't know how much the ferry is but I'd have thought buses and taxis should cover most journeys at a lower cost, and if you really need a car for a day or two then hire one there.

As agrinnall says, you might consider hiring a car when you're there? I've been there many times and nearly always hired cars. Book before you go through atlaschoice, they've always been cheaper than going directly to one of the three companies serving the island. The new ferry service is now a nightmare and a total lottery so if you haven't booked travel, I'd absolutely recommend flying and hiring a car.

If you're committed to taking your car, why not do some research before you go to find a reputable garage you could call on should you need it whilst you're there? It really is a small island. You can't be more than about six miles from the ferry at any time! Enjoy it, it's a lovely island.

Green Flag 7 day cover including the channel islands is £29.75 https://www.greenflag.com/breakdown-cover/european/short-term/prices if your car is under 10 years old.
