tax credits dont think im single

Ok here we go.... i moved back in with my parents last september and have claimed as a single. I had a letter last week asking how i am linked with mr x. Mr x being my ex partner who i lived with for four years. Now my problems begin, i thought no problem i can just send them my bank statement showing i dont pay bills and my kids birth certificate with his name on... not as easy as that.... after trawling various websites i now realise im in deep s***. As my mobile bill, car insurance etc is all still at my exes address. As its all done online and they are nearly up for renewal its easier to leave them there. I am also still on electoral roll (it took me 3 years ro change it to that address when i moved there!) They want info for oct15-mar16. To be honest i know its my own fault and have now started changing everything over but feel its too little too late. Should i just admit i will be fighting a losing battle and except wahts coming around 7000 overpaid. Or should i get what little evidence i have and try and fight my case??? Any help is apreciated x

Surely it would be better to at least try to prove you have no claimed fraudulently?

Surely you must have changed the address with some official sources at the time that you moved.

What about your (and your children's) doctor, schools, child-minder, bank, driving licence etc? Are you saying that absolutely everybody (other than tax credits) would still write to you at your old address?

Can you show that you began paying your parents a regular amount towards food and bills as soon as you moved in? Did their electricity usage increase significantly when you, your children and (I presume) a host of extra electronic gadgets joined their household?

At the very least, you will have social media history where you let all of your friends know that your relationship broke up, won't you?

  • Just to add to your problems, your car insurance would have been invalid as it as at an address you don't live at.

Im not on any social media. I can send them a bank statement showing i am paying no bills at the address, i have a credit card and catalogue at my address but i didnt change address on these until december. My license is in the process of being renewed so that will have my new address on. I do pay my mum keep and pay her by standing order each week so i have evidence of this. No i have not changed doctor as the one by me is a load of rubbish. My son is still in the school where we used to live as he is in year 6, but reading what is on various websites this will not count towards anything as i still have credit files associated with the house.

But the school must be able to confirm that you don't live there?

I havent changed address with school as my son wouldnt have got into the secondary school that he wanted. Its just a big f****d up mess. I think i would rather pay back what they say i have been overpaid than drag this on for months and probably still have the same outcome, im waiting on a phone call off them and explain it all and see what they say. If i havent got a leg to stand on theres not alot i can do

Talk to them. They're human. If you get caught in the grip of Concentrix, it likely will will go pearshaped but the HMRC real folk are not dumb & will try to help.
Without wanting you to say anything here that you aren't happy to mention in front of strangers, if the breakup was in any way connected with domestic/emotional violence then you should find them very helpful.

Long story short.. He just couldnt keep it in his pants!! My letter didnt mention concentrix but when i phoned the number on the letter im sure the woman said concentrex when she answered. She said there was no case workers available and someone would phone me back. All i can do is tell them the truth whether they think i commited fraud or not. Does anyone know what the worst case scenario will be??
