Just a little rant (well just talk) about cutbacks to my support.

Options
I wrote before about cutbacks originally had carers about 12 hours a week meant to be going up to 18 then it went silent and was told they had to cutback so I ended up getting no support but was told about a local autism group.

A few months ago social worker wanted to meet me and said I no longer get social work support as deemed to be able to take care of myself (basically I can microwave meals, have a shower, order takeaways/shopping online and even if I sleep 18 hours a day and go out once a fortnight I can "take care of myself")

Was told its ok as I still have the autism support group.

Was contacted about 2 weeks ago saying autism support group is now cancelled as social work refuse to fund it (so more cutbacks than I thought) but its ok I can get help from social workers, well except I can't

So right now I have no support, and nowhere to go and meanwhile I have an assessment for ESA in 2 weeks but as no longer have social worker have to rely on volunteer from a charity (lucky to even get that really) as even welfare rights said they can't help unless it goes to tribunal.

This is more getting things off my chest than ranting but interesting to see points of view.

  • I'd Email my MP I think they can be found on a site called "they work for us"

sorry to read your post..it sounds like 2 rugs of support have been pulled from under you :( It's a good idea to go to your MP, mine has fought many a battle for me in the last few years!

levels of support are very patchy, with some areas still protecting social care and others cutting savagely.

in my area the support is still quite good ... but only if you have 'substantial' needs.
everyone that had moderate needs has seen all support withfrawn

I know the feeling. Support can't be relied on.

As suggested, perhaps an email to your MP making them aware of the situation you face will be useful, especially if it results in some level of support being offered.

I know there have been lots of cutbacks across the country due to lack of funding. In our area only those who have substantial needs are offered any help but even this has come under scrutiny as they look to save money.

It's a tough one, especially when you need the help but can't get it.

    Good luck :)
