Halifax not taking cash payments over counter anymore for Clarity ?

Being disabled I ask friends to go in branch sometimes if I want to make "extra" payments more than my normal direct debit.

Never had a problem in the past - just gave friend credit card and money - they go in and pay it - come back with card and receipt...........until today.

Informed today they don't take payments over the counter for credit cards - but she will do it just this once.

Has anybody else come across this ?

Dave

What does it say on the statement about payment methods? Have you had a revised T&C leaflet recently that mentions any such change?

    Hi

Not had any new terms and conditions and I don't get paper statements - only online ones so I will check the wording on there.

I have posted on their Facebook page and it seems to be a change in policy that Halifax don't process credit card payments over the counter any more as a number of customers have experienced the same problem.

In branch - If you receive paper statements, complete the payment slip attached to the bottom of your statement and bring it into your local branch with cash or a cheque. You can make a payment up until the day your payment is due however we recommend that you allow extra time.
It looks like you need a proper paying in slip off a paper statement.

In the BOS / Halifax branches, they take the cash and send a payment into the credit card's collection account.

Perhaps the 3rd party element is the issue?

If you use online banking why don't you just make the extra payments online?.

    Hi

Apparently it's still ok to pay this way.

It took 6 different Halifax employees on their facebook page to confirm this - all a bit strange.

Sometimes I have spare cash that I just want to use to make a payment off the credit card in branch - hence why I didn't do it online.

It doesn't happen often and I probably wont bother in future.

It might be an idea to pay cash into your bank account in branch instead, and then use this to pay your credit card online.

A bit of a roundabout way of doing things, but it might avoid any trouble.

You can make payments in cash over the counter for any of your halifax accounts,

Just a question though, did your friend go into a halifax branch to pay the cash into the credit card, or was it into your bank, (if not halifax)

I ask because you cant pay non Halifax credit cards with cash over the counter, so I wonder if your friend was caught by this.

You should have no problem paying extra over the counter on top of your DD, but this is only in a Halifax branch.

The same process is the same for paying a Barclaycard account or lloyds/TSB credit card.
Cash is accepted in the banks where the credit card is held.

You should have no problem in the future, if you do speak to another member of the team, or branch manager.

The OP does have a Halifax Credit Card and it was the OP's friend that went to a Halifax branch with the credit card and cash.

It is possible for Halifax branch staff to take cash and make a payment directly to your Halifax credit card. However, I believe some branches will not allow third party transactions at the counter. Especially when that third party is in possession of somebody else's card.

You can pay non-Halifax cards (over the counter with cash) as long as you have a Halifax (or BOS) account and a pre-printed payment slip.
