Health insurance for Guernsey?

I've established that the EHIC doesn't cover you for travel to the Channel Islands. What should I do? Open a health insurance policy for me and the family? We have adequate travel insurance that covers the Channel Islands just not sure what to do next?

Doesn't your travel insurance adequately cover you for any health problems you experience during your trip?0

Yes! So is this sufficient?0

You tell us your policy is "adequate".
So is it or isn't it?
(If you are already unhealthy then any existing health problems are unlikely to be covered by any form of new insurance you buy)0 -
So you need an EHIC travelling through the EEA but what about outside of the EEA?
My holiday insurance is Worldwide.
So does it just mean I'll have to pay for treatment I need outside the EEA over and above what my holiday insurance covers me for?
If, say, I lost my leg in a car accident in Paris, the EHIC covers me in conjuction with my Holiday insurance? Whereas if I lost my leg in a car accident in New York, I'd be covered by my holiday insurance? Where does the EHIC stop and the Holiday insurance start?0 -
An EHIC is not health insurance. It normally only covers emergency treatment in EU, nothing else.I am not a cat (But my friend is)0

EHIC isn't full travel health "insurance" - eg it won't pay for air ambulance to repatriate you (or return your remains) etc.
So even in those countries you can use EHIC you should also ensure you have usual health cover in your travel insurance.
To see what impact EHIC has you need to check your policy wording (as some policies will only pay out for costs not covered by EHIC)
When travelling in the rest of the world (ie outside EHIC countries) then you can rely on your travel insurance (make sure you have a big limit to cover USA etc!)0 -
