Never, under any circumstances, take a sleeping pill and a laxative on the same night.

There are a couple of historic pubs south of the river if you like that sort of thing. There's the Anchor near the Globe Theatre which Samuel Pepys frequented and from where he watched the Fire of London, there's also the George in Borough High Street which was a favourite of Shakespeare's. According to the Hairy Bikers recent programme about pubs, the George is the only remaining galleried pub in Britain.0

If you mean a proper pub crawl rather than visiting one or two interesting places my 3 suggestions are, (puts tin hat on)
1. Soho area; amongst numerous pubs are Coach and Horses, Dog and Duck, Three Greyhounds, Pillars of Hercules, Chesire Arms, Cambridge, all within more or less a stone's throw of each other.
2. Earls Court area; Blackbird, Courtfields, Prince of Teck, Kings Head, Earls Court Taven, O'neils, The Pembroke. Again, not too much walking between them.
3. Waterloo area. The Ring, Wellington, The Pit Bar, (in the Old Vic), Fire Station, Slug and Lettuce.
I would hope you get a few more areas suggested, these are the 3 know best.
A "london pub crawl" IMHO you would spend a lot of time travelling, pick a more specific area for each night you are there.
Hope this helps a wee bit.
Good Luck.0 -
Would prefer to keep away from proper tourist areas...
Have seen Kentish Town as a good choice without having to follow an iphone or print out?Never, under any circumstances, take a sleeping pill and a laxative on the same night.0 -

Erm, ok.
Mostly local people who would be drinking in the pubs listed above
An area I know that I thought might be a wee bit off the beaten track for someone not familiar would be Lillie Rd/North End Rd...Lillie Langtree, The Goose, The Elm, The Atlas, AVOID The Imperial Arms
Kentish Town, sorry cant help.
You're a bit younger than me so maybe something like Old Street/Hoxton area; dont know it well but sure there's enough bars to form the type of "pub crawl" i would imagine your thinking of. Maybe someone who knows that area could post up some boozers?
Hope that helps.0 -
I think the Southampton Arms is Kentish Town way, it's excellent for Real Ale. Also the Bermondsey Beer Mile for craft beer, although it can be a but touristy.0

We chose this one, just over the earls court one
Leaving in about an hours time , when i am in a fit state (probably Wednesday earliest) i will update the threadNever, under any circumstances, take a sleeping pill and a laxative on the same night.0 -
Good Luck.....plenty other pubs in the area if you don't like the ones I've listed.0

Hi there, yep, get up to Kentish Town — and even a little further north, if you fancy it. If the weather is nice, you could try an itinerary like this:
To get started, get the tube up to Highgate Station. It's zone 3, but worth the journey. Pop into any of these pubs. All have excellent cask ale, and often some interesting keg options, too:
The Bull, North Hill. My favourite in Highgate, and has really great food
The Wrestlers, practically opposite The Bull
The Red Lion and Sun — just down the road from these two, but it's more 'gastro'
Once you've tried those, get a quick one in The Flask near Pond Square. Standard Fullers pub in a nice building.
Now you have a choice. If the weather's good, you could stroll across Hampstead Heath to another pub called The Flask. This one is slightly-!!!!!!-but-still-not-too-bad.
Or you could do what I would do and head down Highgate West Hill to The Southampton Arms, probably the best pub in London.
The Bull and Last is nearby and gets good reviews, but it's a little too food-focused for me. I'd head down into Tufnell Park and Kentish Town, where you really can't move for good pubs. The Camden Town Brewery has a nice bar which is open on Saturdays.
Let us know how you get on.
Edit to add: seen that I'm too late! Hope you have a good trip. Head up this way next time - I can guarantee you won't be disappointed.0 -
One of our clients has this on their website - many alternative trails in the London area and sounds like it's just perfect for what you're after if you're heading back there anytime https://www.nicholsonspubs.co.uk/aletrail0
