Gumtree/PayPal scam???

I'm selling a pushchair on Gumtree for £300 and have been contacted by 2 separate people requesting I contact them via their email address to tell them whether it's still for sale.
They both are similar stories and want to buy it through PayPal. Can't come themselves as one has just had surgery and wants to buy for cousin, one works all the time and wants it for their sister but both will send couriers.
I'm am very suspicious and have requested the courier brings me the cash but they declined and still want to pay by PayPal.
I'm not going to do this as I think it's a scammer. Has anybody else had this happen to them?

It is a scam. Gumtree is meant for face to face/cash transactions.
Do NOT be tempted, they may try very hard and you might just think 'what could go wrong'....
Think for a moment, you are right to be suspicious and your first impressions are usually correct. In this case they ARE categorically correct, this is a very common scam.
If you let them pay by paypal and they sent their own courier; could you show paypal the online tracking showing delivery; could you claim if the item was lost/damaged in transit? Paypal would refund in those circumstances and you would be left out of pocket.0 -

It's an obvious scam and well done for trusting your instincts on this. If more people were like the OP and asked before dealing with this sort of question, these scumbag scammers would have to get a real job.

Totally a scam! Well spotted.
Insist on cash or bank transfer only.Should've = Should HAVE (not 'of')
Would've = Would HAVE (not 'of')
No, I am not perfect, but yes I do judge people on their use of basic English language. If you didn't know the above, then learn it! (If English is your second language, then you are forgiven!)0 -

The lazier scammers even go so far as to not mention the pushchair/car/whatever but copy/paste referring to 'the item' - a guaranteed sign of a scammer.0
