Debt and cancer

Today I have to either accept that I can't repay my loan / debts to bank (at least £25,000) as my bank is , on Monday, insisting that if I don't pay a big chunk and set up a schedule, or consolidate into new loan there's no other option left.
I can't get my head round all this as I go for health tests in a fortnight which could reveal I have cancer. If it does, it could be quite an aggressive type which has poor long term prognosis. Of course I could get good news but I need to consider the "worst case scenario".
I will try & post my SOA tomorrow but I wonder If I pay enough to them now i could buy time and keep my loan insurance valid.
If the worst happens I don't want to leave my adult son with a financial mess to deal with.
Thanks
ps: I seperated from my husband over 20 years ago and have never divorced. I guess that will make things even more complicated - and I haven't got a will. What a god awful mess

oh dear; what a nightmare for you. If you can sit down over the weekend & sort what is what. Have you been missing payments? Just wondered why they are asking to reschedule? Also try & ring one of teh free debt councelling people etc & see what they can offer.
Re the tests it may not be cancer so if you can focus on the money for now & see what happens when you've had the tests. Even if it is cancer there are some amazing treatments these day. My neighbor has cancer & has been doing very well on a new regime!
Big hug for you. Keep posting & f you can post your SOA & people will make some suggestions on where you can cut back...BTW you can do a will relativey easily! Hi, I'm so sorry for you're going through such a traumatic time. Either one of them would understandably rock your world.
I can't offer you anything in the way of help I'm afraid. Cancer is an awful disease and the mere mention of the word chills the bones. I wish you the strength to deal with both of these awful things. I'm sure your son would not want you worrying on his behalf at such a time. Hi owt
Sorry to hear of your health worries. there has been a lot of cancer in my close family recently so I understand how you must be feeling waiting for news. I pray that everything turns out for the better for you.
I can't really advise much on your financial situation, are your insurance payments up to date? These are notorious for not paying out when needed so if there has been defaults they would probably use that as an excuse not to pay. I would certainly look into where you would stand if you had bad news.
Regarding your son, if the worst were to happen he would not be legally responsible for any of your debts unless he was a joint applicant on any loans etc. Any debts left by you would have to be settled from your estate - if there were insufficient funds in the estate the debts would legally be written off.
It would be a good idea to make a will whatever the outcome and also take legal advice regarding your situation re ex husband. It would put your mind at rest at least.
I will be keeping fingers crossed that you are okay, and sorry that you are having to deal with health worries as well as dealing with debt. It must be hugely worrying for you.
Take care

Hello owt
Sorry to hear about your health problems. It is a worrying tlme waiting for tests and the results.
The first priority is yourself and to find as much help and support. Talk to your family and friends about your anxieties if that is possible. Even the most unlikely person can be a tower of strenth at times like this.
You do need professional help to advise you on your personal circumstances
Talk to your GP.
CAB is a good starting place.

If your doctor thinks it may be an agressive type of cancer, then a two week wait for even an initial test is far too long to wait, sounds very strange. Ring the hospital and see if you can get in any earlier. I know when I was suspected of having an illness, I went straight from the doctors surgery to the hospital where a consultant was waiting. Sort this out first, and loads of lovely people on here can help you with the money side of things. Best of luck. xx0

Only think I can suggest is that you make a will ASAP - your husband will inherit otherwise if you are still married to him. Then any life insurance & home will go to your son.
Re the tests - speak to your GP asap too, if it is an agressive illness you need to be seen now, not in 2 weeks.
