So what happens to the rest of the water you (presumable) filled it with?
    Is it still in there?
    Boiled away?
Teleported to a galaxy far far away?

Ah look the thing up. It isn't actually a kettle as such and from comments on http://www.kitchenables.co.uk/kettle/breville-hot-cup-vkj318-with-variable-dispenser-review/ seems to be very unreliable. The fault you seem to be having is
People who experienced this fault said that sometimes the machine dispenses a full cup, and sometimes half a cup. One person said that sometimes her machine dispenses what amounts to a teaspoon sized drip of water!

My brother has a device such as this. (No idea what make/model). It seems to work just fine.

We've just purchased the Breville VKJ367 & really impressed with it. Sorry for asking obvious question but have you chosen the correct setting for mug? it took us a couple of practice cups before we found right setting for our sized mugs.

I would run a proper descaling fluid through it like they use for espresso machines.

The Nespresso machines (they work on a similar principle) I have at work HAS to be descaled every few months or the just jam up.

If you live in a really hard water area I would just bin it, its not worth the argo or the cost of the descaling fluid.

Do you leave it to soak?

How Do I Remove Limescale from Household Appliances?

    For kettles and coffee-makers:
    • Mix up a water-vinegar solution or buy a de-scaling agent and fill the water tank to capacity.
    • Switch the appliance on and let the mixture boil, then leave it to soak overnight.
    • In the morning, empty the mixture out and rinse thoroughly.
    Alternately,

How do you descale a kettle?

Cut a lemon or lime into 4 pieces. Fill the kettle with water up to the maximum level, squeeze and put the lemon slices inside, and boil the water. Let the water cool down for 1 hour and boil the water again. The kettle will be as clean as new.

    thanks for all the replies.
I have had this for a long time because I'm I'll and unable to lift a normal kettle and it has always worked OK till now, I have always rescaled it with vinegar now I will try as Rob Tang say's and buy a de-scaler such as oust and if that works I will have to do it more often. I have been looking at the new 6L or 9L but if this one works I'll be happy with that.
    Thanks again Drinda.
