How much is resetting a solitaire ring?

Has anyone had this done? I have a white gold solitaire ring that I would like to have reset into a new yellow gold ring. Of a slightly different design. How much should I expect to pay?
A minute at the till, a lifetime on the bill.

There are too many variables to say - what carat gold you choose and the size of the setting (gold weight) and the style of the setting as some would require the setting to be custom made. Go to a couple of manufacturing jewellers and get some quotes. You should get some money back for the old band, unless you want to keep it.

You could look on some of the manufacturing jewellery sites and see if they have pricing for the setting only.

I agree with LilElvis (I think she know a few things about jewellery :D), find a manufacturing jeweller. It will be cheaper..
I had a small diamond replaced in a green sapphire & diamond ring and was really pleased with the price & workmanship.

Best not to go to a jeweller or anyone with actual recent experience, just go on a forum and ask random folk instead. :p

I had one quote from a jeweller which I felt was excessive so wanted an idea of any other's experiences.

Retailers are not the places to deal with for this sort of work. You will still find manufacturing jewellers in the Jewellery Quarter in Birmingham, some of them small independents who can do this sort of work for reasonable cost. The old setting has a value towards the cost of the new one, of course. Do a bit of research and there are quite a few who will create whatever you want from scratch.
