I saw that one too - who in their right mind would want to run a maraton in the heat! If I didn't have kids, I would probably be prepared to enter comps just for the experience and cash, but mine are young and I cannot just go off for a night here, there and everywhere at the drop of a hat, plus I live up in the land of Geordies so not many hotel/tix type comps in my neck of the woods! Travelling down to London is expensive! If I take my kids away during term time I get fined! Though I wouldn't change my status for the world! :)

Well it's in October so its not going to be that that hot.. but still.. At least its at the start of the holiday so you have the rest of the week to chill out...

You just wake up on the day and feel a bit poorly so can't do it - they can hardly force you.

And yes I have won tickets and travelling expenses and just banked the expenses - and would do so again. If that's more use to you I don't have a problem with it.

I'll have your Haven holiday if you win! I normally enterwhen there's a prize I really want and a prize I don't. This week I won tickets to an event with a couple of outfits to go from an expensive clothes shop. I asked and they're going to send everything through the post so I'm just going to sell the tickets. After this though I don't think I'm going to enter unless I'm able to do all parts of the prize because it was quite stressful worrying I'd have the prize taken from me because I couldn't go.

I saw one in a local paper recently 10 second prizes of meals for 2 in a new Italian restaurant and a first prize of a six months gym membership. I would probably benefit from the gym membership but I would love the Italian meal.

I would like a night in a London hotel as I have a son who lives there.

Do you have no friends and family you could give the holiday to? At a push, how about a local charity?

Event tickets are more complicated; if they are held at the door for you then you can't sell them on but you could just go for the hotel stay and not bother. If you have the tickets in hand - you could try going to the venue early and selling to a tout then pocketing the cash.

I wouldn't enter if the whole prize was something I couldn't/wouldn't use but I'll happily sell on or give away a part of a prize and keep the bits I want.
I need to think of something new here...

Don't want to hijack the thread but now the company I've won the competition with are wanting to meet at the event. The tickets won't arrive in time to sell them but I still couldn't go. What do I say?! Help!

You could throw a sickie the day b4? But if your conscience won't let you then I would just come clean and say you can't attend. Offer to pass on the whole prize and keep fingers crossed xxx

Anything could prevent you attending at the last minute, don't sweat it. Take control of the conversation as they say in marketing ;)
