Would love some advice please?

Its for household bits and kids school/uni homework.

Thank You

AFAIK, 'laserjet' is HP's name for laser printers.
I guess you want just a laser printer, not necessarily HP.
And, I guess, you want b&w (mono), not colour.

Usually they discuss the cost of cartridges as well.

Black and White mono laser printers will do anywhere from 1000 pages up per toner. If you get the cheaper re-manufactured or compatible cartridges they are usually significantly cheaper than the original/genuine toner cartridges.

This is dirt cheap, does 1000 pages a toner, it is only a printer, not a scanner/copier or anything else:

And this is the cost of the toner for it (£11.85 when I write, at 1000 pages a toner that's 1.1p a sheet (possibly even less than that if you're careful with it):

Colour laser printers and multi-function all-in-one lasers are available but they are quite expensive. If it's a multi-purpose you want, an multi-function inkjet will be cheaper both to buy and run.

Have you seen the monthly printer ink deals? HP do one called HP Instant Ink. Might be worth considering such a service.

I suspect the printers are sold below cost and the manufacturers get their money back on the toner cartridges, which is why there are always dire warnings about using compatibles. I have only had a problem with one compatible and it was duly exchanged.

Whereas we had a ton of problems with compatibles, to the point where it was costing us more on damage to other parts (the life of the fuser roller seems *much* shorter for some reason when using compatible cartridges, for example, as does that of the drum) than we saved, so we went back to originals.

Business printing a few thousand pages a month, to put it into context. I'm sure we are the only people ever to have problems when using compatibles though as so many people recommend them.

Instant Ink is never the answer, ever. Too expensive and too intrusive.
  • If you only need a mono printer, the Brother HL-1112 is currently on sale at Ryman, for £39-99.

I have one and, while it's not really suitable for business use (a bit slow to warm up, and only 150 sheet capacity), I can't fault it for home use.

I feed it compatibles, which it handles without complaint.

A pair of suitable compatibles (the make I buy), are available from Amazon, for £16-15, including delivery.
