Old Style Daily Sunday 29th May

icon1.gifOld Style Daily Sunday 29th May
This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!

As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or SLOW internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred. When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning.

Some people who chat here like to try to answer everyone. Don’t feel you have to though, a general “hi everyone, hope everyone’s well” is fine

    Good morning everyone

I think everyone is having a lovely lie in this morning on here :D.

It is a lovely sunny morning here today and the girls are all up playing on Just Dance on the TV. There is an awful lot of giggling going on but it's great to hear. DD15 had a nice birthday with lots of money given to her so she will be off out this week to spend it.

I broke my diet hard yesterday with sausage and chips from the local chippy for lunch and a piece of birthday cake too. I didn't feel particularly well last night so I am back on the straight and narrow this morning.

DD13 desperately needs new shoes so I am trying to pluck up the courage to go to Barnstaple on the bus with her to get some. The thought makes me feel sick to be honest but I am the only one who can take her as my hubby has a bad tummy. I have a few hours to think about it anyway.

Hubby is supposed to be cooking today but I have just asked for a salad for dinner. I bought some pork loin chops in a Chinese glaze so they should be nice with it.

I have a small mountain of washing to do so I will finish my cup of tea and get cracking on with it. I will love you and leave you so I hope you all have a really nice Bank Holiday weekend. Take care xx

    Morning :hello:

Master tru found a t-shirt at the bottom of his laundry basket, it was a bit damp and had gone mouldy. He soaked it in a bowl of diluted Milton, then I remembered my white shirt had a small suncream stain on it. You can hardly see it but I couldn't get the mark out and it was bugging me so I threw it into the bowl. Wish I hadn't bothered – the almost invisible mark is now pink :D I'll try a stronger solution today, if that doesn't work I'll spend the next three weeks moaning about it.

I had a quick wander around the garden last night, the tomato plants need a bit of attention. Checked my strawberry plants, I have a grand total of four flowers :D Hopefully more will appear, I love strawberries straight from the garden with a tiny bit of ice cream. Shop bought ones just aren't the same. The chives and salad leaves are still small but look nice and healthy, not many of the mixed herbs have sprouted though. The veg patch should be looking very productive but it doesn't. A few onion leaves have rust rot so I pulled them up, the onions are larger than I thought they'd be by now. Birds have stolen the carrot seeds and slugs have eaten my sprouts. I have no idea what happened to the leeks. The garlic and most of the onions are fine, I'll leave them in and keep checking for rot.

I'll be pottering in the greenhouse this morning, then deciding what to fill the veg patch with. I've started an online shop – I always start a few days before buying so I can book the delivery slot I want before the best times disappear :D I'll check the cupboards later and fill the trolley up properly.

    Morning All

A nice slow start to Sunday! Washing on the line but no sunshine yet. Cleaed the downstairs bathroom last night after a bath - I had been jet washing the drive so was absolutely filthy. I've still got some scraping out of the drive to do but got fed up, the jet washer is so much fun!

Police are still round the corner, rumour has it that the tennants were growing cannabis in the loft and something happened to blow the place up. I feel particularly sorry for the tennant downstairs, the house is ruined (4 in a block).

Off to Glasgow today to the home show, free tickets courtesy of MSE, will meet DD there. I get fed up pretty quickly at these things but like to go for a nosey. Also need to get a large bottle of vinegar (hoping this really does work as weedkiller) so will call at Costc0. More painting to do at DDs, just the windowsill and it's done, I'll leave all the stuff for her to do a second coat - what can go wrong?!

Have a good Sunday. Take care. XX

Tru I am sure sometimes its a case of the wildlife being fed by what you plant.
Still I guess at least some good comes from your efforts even if its only to feed animals its gone into the food chain :) annoying all the same.In my previous house we had a lovely stawberry patch but we also had a tortoise who would trundle around taking a small nibble from each strawberry, used to drive me insane no matter what I did this blessed animal would get through almost anything just for a taste.

Well the sun is up(somewhere above the cloud) and its quite warm at the moment so I think I am off to Westgate with DD,DGS and probably the dogs for a wander along the front.Son-in-law still has his big essay to finish for college so we get out of his way and give him some peace and quiet for an hour or so.
Hope everyone has a good day what ever you are doing
    Cheers chums JackieO xx

    Good morning everyone.

Yes dumpling, I slept late and just woken up. Mind you I went to bed late too.

The party was really lovely last night with a fab bunch of third year uni students and us oldies. I never stay long at parties as I'm not too comfortable in that situation so I was home by 9.30. Then I got a glass of wine and sat outside my front door watching the pink sky over Jura. It was still light at 11pm, just delightful.

I thought OH was coming up last night but he texted to say he'd come today. It's a five hour drive each way. I'll put a pot of chilli on for later and get some salad bits in.

The builder is coming over after lunch to have a look at the cupboard removal job. 'After lunch' cos he was at the party too!

It's a beautiful day here so I must rouse myself and get going.

    Happy Sunday everyone.

    Morning all,

Beautiful day here I have the bedding in the wm and will hang it out after it should dry well today.

OH went upstairs at 8 last night to get something and promptly fell asleep, I went up later on to find him sprawled across the spare bed fully clothed, I left him there :D so he has had a massive sleep and will be full of the joys today ! wont be doing too much but will take Evie out for a walk, Ive put a video on FB this morning of her 'burying' her bone in the garden, its really funny she just puts it on the grass and pushes her nose over it until she thinks its covered enough, Its not actually covered at all :rotfl:

Not sure about dinner today will go and have a look in the freezer after this, need to hoover through upstairs, everything else was done yesterday.

    Have good weekends all xx

    Morning everybody.

Nice day and washing is now outside. DD is staying over and I think I can hear her moving around so will offer breakfast. Youngest dd has not come back from staying at a friend's house so very quiet.

Youngest is staying till tomorrow and hoping for a day of shopping then a nice lunch out. I think the builder might be demolishing the kitchen tomorrow so will try to empty everything away by tonight. The zone of chaos seems to be constantly moving around.

Lunch will be garlic chicken, roast potatoes, yorkies and lots of veg.

I have put two chickens in the oven so that I can have cooked chicken in containers in the fridge for the next few days. The small multi cooker has arrived so I can use that to make a few healthy meals while things are in chaos.

DD's sent me a lovely bouquet to mark our 34th wedding anniversary which is next to me while me and middle dd watch britain's got talent which we recorded.

    Hugs to all.

  • Good Morning everyone, lovely sunny and fresh here, the breeze is taking the edge off the temperature so it's very pleasant. We got up early and went to the boot fair which was strangely lacking, full of genuine sellers not traders but most of what they had on offer seemed to have seen much better days. Not a wasted journey though as I got a Bed Guard for when Zebra is big enough to sleep in a full sized single bed, a lovely childs tool kit so he can play with Opa in the shed when he's here with us, a beautiful hand thrown bowl for DD2, a white gravy boat and saucer for me and a pair of Danish white ceramic candlesticks for DD1 and only spent £6.50 on the lot!

He Who Knows is out walking Cookie and is planning an afternoon watching the Grand Prix and then the final of the IPL 20/20 Cricket, lunch will be cold meat and salad in the garden and other than the usual watering that is all we have to do today. We went for a nice walk across the common and through the woods last evening to see how my Plantar Fasciitis was coming along and I'm so far pain free, can only be to the good as it jolly well hurt when it was bad!

Hope you've all got this enjoyable weather, have a lovely day everyone, Lyn xxx.

    Morning everyone,

Late posting today, was up early at just after six but with one thing and another only just had time to sit down.
Had lovely day yesterday, picked up Mum and took her into town for a few bits. She managed to pick up a couple of new bras in Mr Sparks and is so pleased with them, she has gone for something padded as after her BC surgery + weight loss felt needed something to give her some shape. In facts she likes them so much we are ordering two more online this morning.
I also found my dress for the wedding :j lovely maxi dress form Monsoon, feel very feminine in it but will be able to wear flats so no aching feet!

Only downside is that seem to have pulled a muscle in my calf, was a bit sore on Friday evening and then went to run after Rosie last night and ping felt something go :( gave me a bit of a restless night and am still hobbling today.

So, am planning on lazy day today, Mum has had a busy/stressful week too so we are all going to relax and enjoy our Sunday. She brought a Red Cross food parcel with her, cheese scones, bacon & egg pie, lemon drizzle cake and tea-loaf so don't need to do much in the way of cooking. Bless her heart, she is a Mum in the million.

Anyways, have a good day everyone, take care folks x
  • Morning ((((((((((hugs)))))))))) if you need one.

Whats happened to the weather, glorious day yesterday, overcast and freezing this morning.

We had our usual Sunday breakfast in bed. OH is mowing the grass at the back, load of laundry in, hope it dries.

I am having an easy day after all the walking yesterday, by the time we got home my back was telling me it was not happy.

We had quiche and salad last night, will finish the quiche off at lunchtime with some beetroot, hm potato salad and coleslaw, might manage to find a piece of bread to go with it.

I have prepped the veg for tonight, pork chops, roast potatos and butternut squash, carrot and green beans, I bought banabs the other day so will have banana something for dessert.

Still not got to the kitchen floor maybe tomorrow???
