Doing personal tasks for boss and paying with own money

Yes
Personally I think the OP needs to either accept this cover is something they are stuck with for five or six weeks a year when the real assistant is off .........or find a job that has more palatable year round duties........or refuse to do it and see whether they get fired or not. Nothing worse at work than someone with a resentful attitude. Clearly this company aren't such a good fit as their previous company -so maybe the OP might consider moving on either to another company or back to the old one. "We didn't" do this at my old company" rarely is appreciated.
It's just a job.0 -
Checked my work emails just now. HR business partner said I shouldn't be paying with my own money and HR say I shouldn't be paying with my own money and I shouldn't be doing personal business for this guy. Union say the same.
Btw - my appraisals are all "very good" and my bonus proves it. My attitude doesn't show then "Guest 101"
Fire me and get taken to a tribunal. Ha.0 -

I'm paid to assist with work task
Your job might not be to be his slave, but someone is, and it might be totally acceptable that part of your duties are to cover other staff when they are on holiday, and that would include doing exactly the same as they do.
Personally, for the sake of 4 weeks, I wouldn't risk annoying someone who could easily dispose of me very easily (not directly of course, but as we know, there are always ways). I would also embrace the change in the job. Yes, he is treating you like his slave, but you have no idea what he could do in return to support you if you ever needed it, if he thought highly of you. I personally would see it as an opportunity rather than moaning about it.0 -

come down off that high horse pal.
You need to tell your big boss what HR(name the individuals) have told you and or get HR to tell your big boss.
I would not be surprised HR find they are put in their place as they are just there to do as they are told just like you.
If you are not happy with the scope of this assignment then you are moaning at the wrong people(on here) you need to be looking at who is asigning you to this task and negotiating with them.
The general consensus here is.
Scope of role is OK
Using your own funds is not.0 -
Heh heh yes depends on the hierarchy and where the guy fits, but it's not a given that he'll get told off for your benefit, the opposite could also be true. He may have a chat with the HR Director as a peer, who knows.
Just be aware , that's all!0 -

If this work is being neglected is anyone noticing or complaining?
Have they been told why?
Or is it now that you only have time to focus on the really important stuff you still manage and get that done and the stuff the new boss wants.
the stuff being neglected being not that important all along0 -
I wouldn't be paying for anything out of your personal money but the rest seems reasonable, in my opinion.0

it is not ok to invoice a senior manager for food and drink costs at lunch
it is definitely not ok to put personal purchases on a credit card to be reimbursed
I work for a PLC - 3 yrs- not having done prevously - for 30 yrs. This post fills me with horror.
If he is charging lunch, you need a corp card for that. Personal expenses, are...personal.0
