Component Input to TV

I have just bought a new Philips TV and apparently it takes a 'component input'. I have never really understood this - I currently have it linked up via scart socket to my DVD/Sky. The philips manual says component gives better picture quality than scart. Having looked in my dvd manual it would seem to have a component output. Would it be worth my while buying some component cables? - it would seem from reading the manual I would have to buy two set of cables - a video cable (3 plugs) and an audio cable (2 plugs). If it is worth my while buying some cables any recommendations?

You will see a big difference moving from SCART to component.

Good quality cables make a difference as well although you don't need to spend silly money. I got my cables off eBay so worth a look.

I also use component from my Sky+ box as the Sky+ box can output in RGB (although I needed a QED SCART to component convertor box as well).

With this set up, normal Sky on my new 50" screen looks really good and will keep me going until Sky HD gets cheaper.
