Hello

Posting this for a friend who's got her first monthly pay and she's not sure if it's right?

Yearly salary is £5,718 for 15 hour contract tax code 1100L

Net Pay £414.99 (no tax or ni)

We've checked an online calculator and it says £476.47?

Anyone know which is right?

Well its not a tax or NI issue then.

When did she start and what period does the pay cover?

    still does not help

either is she paid by the hour and the pay is £y x 15 hours

or the salary is based on an annual figure for a full time employee in which case how many hours per week is "full time"

Will find out from her tomorrow
  • Maybe she's going to get paid every 4 weeks rather than monthly?

Still wouldn't work out exactly but a lot closer than monthly.

Is she over 21? I ask because it seems that the annual salary works out to minimum wage for 21+ (£5,718 / 53 weeks / 15 hours), so if she's under 21 that may be the reason.

I don't know what NMW is for under 21s but the salary actually paid works out to roughly £6.26 per hour (£414.99 x 12 months / 53 weeks / 15 hours).

When did we go to 53 week years?

Without knowing the pay policies how they work annual/12, hourly pro rata etc, the pay period it will not be possible to say what the employer should be paying.

on annual of £5718 and a pay of £414.99

Difficult to speculate but min wage of £6.70(21-24) getting close to 62hrs.

The pay period may be critical(if not annual/12)
if it is calendar month then May has 4 weeks a BH and another day which is getting close to 62hrs depending which days they work
