Lowell wrong info

Not sure if posting in the correct place
We are applying for a mortgage at the end of this year so am trying to get my credit file and finances tidy to better our chances.
A couple of years ago I had a disagreement with vodaphone and stupidly stopped paying my contract and ignoring letters thinking it would disappear (I know bad idea silly me)
I then started receiving letters from fredrickson international a debt collector so fought I best start paying them. Back in February I decided to pay the outstanding balance in full £350 what started as around £600. I was told I could get a discounted settlement but it would go on my file as only part paid so decided to pay the full amount to look better in my file.

When I checked my file today it shows that the account with Lowell who owned the debt is closed but still has a balance of £2.
I phoned lowell and they have said that I still owe £2.61
I don't mind paying it if I still owe it its £2 hardly a bank breaker.
They have said I can pay it but if I do that means that u accept responsibility for it otherwise they will look into it.
I phoned fredrickson who was collecting the debt for Lowell and they said on there system they can see that I have paid to the penny.
They are sending me a copy of the account what I will forward to experian to back this up.
What I am more concerned with is I was led to believe it was paid in February so it should show on my file as settled then if I pay now due to there mistake it will say it is settled this month possibly next dependant on how long it takes for them to update my file.
I know it's only a couple months but we want to get every fine detail perfect so we can go into applying for the mortgage with no hidden surprises.
Sorry I whittled on a bit hopefully someone can shed some light on this.
Regards
Adam

    Hi Adam

You have the right to insist that your credit file information is correct. If you have evidence to show the debt was fully paid on a certain date ask Lowell to correct it. If they don’t you can complain to the Financial Ombudsman Service (FOS) and Information Commissioner’s Officer (ICO).
