Graded Equipment

Hi
Hope someone can advise please - my Humax Freesat box was faulty and it has been replaced with a 'graded' box. Am I right in thinking this is not 'first quality'? I am asking because the replacement box is faulty, with a completely different problem to the one for which the original box was replaced. Hopefully thanks in advance for any advice.

Probably need a bit more information to help. Firstly how long did you have your freesat box for before the fault occurred?
If 'graded' means refurbished or something to that ilk, thats fine. They can replace a second hand faulty box with a second hand non faulty box. They do not have to offer a brand new one, which I assume is what you mean by 'first quality'
However, a faulty replacement isn't good enough, so they should provide you with another remedy (depending on when you bought it...)0 -
Thanks for your response marliepanda. The box was bought new in August 2014 with a 2 year warranty. Humax are saying that they have supplied a brand new unit that has never been used before. But it does not work for more than a couple of minutes and then freezes and the only way of doing anything with it is to unplug it from the socket. This fault is different from the one for which they agreed to replace my original box. I was just suspicious because the box containing the 'new'unit has 'Graded' on it, thinking this was perhaps akin to 'B grade' stock.0

As you returned a faulty, near 2 year old box, then unless the warranty states it's a 'new for old' replacement then they are entitled to supply you with a refurb product. Of course, as marliepanda says, it needs to still be in working order!
What have Humax said about the faulty replacement? Have you had a look to see if you can factory reset it? Or is there a software update that you can do that may solve the problem?0 -
Humax have suggested a factory reset - have tried that but it won't stay on long enough to do anything.0

The new box is under warranty with Humax until August so I would insist that they take it back and supply a replacement. I'm not quite sure where you stand with the retailer now (assuming it wasn't bought direct from Humax) as it's not the item that you bought in the first place but as it was a manufacturer replacement I'd think that you could argue that it's still covered by SOGA so you could ask them to resolve the fault.0
