To fit a gas boiler do you have to be corgi registered?
My daughter & b/f have had a new boiler fitted but will not be commissioned until the boss comes round(not the person who fitted it).
Is that legal? what can they do about it.
Cheers in advance

To work on anything gas you have to be corgi reg. therefore in my view it is illegal. If you rang corgi 08704012200,they will beable to advise you. They are there to give you any help or advice on illegal fitters.0

Unless the law has changed since i last looked (it may have its been a while) you have to be "competent". Most people translate that into being corgi registered which is fair enough given they have a monopoly. Bottom line is for your own safety sake make sure anyone who installs and comissions a gas appliance is corgi registered.0 -

I wouldn't be too bothered about it. After all, it's the end result that counts.
There are two ways of looking at this.
1. How is one to obtain the experience and expertise to become registered unless a worker gains 'hands on' experience which is then certified by someone appropriately registered.
2. There are those amongst us that have perfectly good 'hands on' experience and skills but lack the mental agility to obtain formal qualifications, whether it be in plumbing, mechanics, electrics, etc.
and
3. (I've just thought of another
) For a company with multiple employees, and having regard to the high annual cost of being Corgi registered, there could be a financial benefit in only having a limited number of the workforce registered.
Or, to put it another way, when you go on an aeroplane journey, does it really matter who is actually flying the damn thing, providing it gets there safely.0 -
I would have thought it was very important who was flying the aeroplane, after all, not everyone can , can they !!0

Common practice within heating firms..Non Corgi guys within the company do the work..The Guvner with the qualification comes around inspects and writes the certificate..I suspect the person with qualification should do the final gas connection too but in reality I wonder how often this happens..The Early bird may catch the worm ...but its the second mouse that gets all the cheese!0
