Another address on credit file

I'm looking to buy a house (when I can finally find one) but have had a few addresses on my credit file due to renting and having to move frequently. I don't have much luck with rentals and my current and last landlord have decided to sell the property, forcing me to move.

So, having to move again soon and am concerned about the impact this will have on my credit file. In the last 3 years, when I move I will have lived in 3 addresses.

Not a lot I can do about it but wondered if this will really matter too much if I have a clean credit file otherwise?

    Hi

Some guides to 'credit scoring' suggest that multiple address changes could potentially be seen as a lack of stability, but it's really up to each individual lender. When you apply for a mortgage there are various things the lender would look into to decide whether they'll lend to you or not. If everything else is positive it may not be an issue at all.

One thing is certain, multiple addresses will not help you get credit. One might ask, why are multiple addresses registered against you?

Bear in mind that Experian, and possibly the others, help themselves to the Royal Mail redirection database. Accordingly, it is not a good idea to use this rotten service. You may only be temporarily resident somewhere, or maybe not resident at all. Maybe you just want a mate to take care of your post while you're out of the country or something. No matter, if you register with the RM for redirection, Experian get to know about it and then shaft you with another address record. DO NOT USE ROYAL MAIL REDIRECT.

The collection of addresses from RM is yet another example of how the CRAs publish lies about individuals.

Well its an unfair way to judge people especially if you are in the rental market. They want to see 'stability' but surely if I have a clean file with no late payments or defaults, that is irrelevant.

I guess some lenders will be more strict than others on this side of things.

I completely agree. If you do find it to be an issue when you're trying to get a mortgage it's probably worth using a mortgage broker. They tend to have a better idea of which lenders will find certain things acceptable or not.

On the royal mail website It looks like you can opt out of said database, better to keep control of your information that leave it open to information ravenous companies:

I'd post the direct link but I can't post links for some reason.

Hopefully that is true. I just had a browse around the RM site but couldn't find anything to that effect - I'm guessing it's well hidden.

So would it be totally wrong to not change my address and just redirect my mail for 6 months? is this a bit risky? Not sure I like the idea but I also don't like the idea of my credit file being affected.

'The Royal Mail Home Movers Database is a unique data source which enables Companies to reach individuals who have just moved home – a key life stage event, and the perfect opportunity for a business to reach out to them.

Data is sourced and ID verified, from the Royal Mail’s Redirection Service which generates around 100,000 new movers each month.

The database holds named individuals who have given permission for the data to be used by 3rd parties for marketing purposes. Plus a ‘Dear Occupier’ mailing option is available which enables you to mail to a moved from addresses.'
I assume this is the same database? I'll be ringing to enquirer about redirection later today and will pose the question directly.
To find the above just type Royal Mail database into Google

    Hi All

Just to ask the question again. I will be moving into temporary accommodation until I can find a house to buy.

it could be 3-6 months. Would there be repercussions if I didn't change my address and just redirected it?

I don't want my mortgage affected by having 3 addresses in 3 years.

I know they will want proof of address and I still have council tax bills. Not sure if I should be doing that though......
