Mortgage account showing zero balance on credit file despite shortfall?

Unfortunately the house that my partner jointly owned with his ex wife was repossessed.
The house was sold and the mortgage company wrote stating that there was a shortfall due to be paid, and several letters have subsequently been sent by a debt collection company asking him to make payments. However my partner just checked his credit file on experian and the mortgage account is shown as a defaulted account, but with a balance of zero.
Does anyone know what this is about?

Sounds like there is a shortfall. Ask the lender or DCA for details.0

Yes, as stated above, we realise there is a shortfall, which is why we don't understand why the credit file shows the mortgage account as showing a zero balance?0

That's what the lender is reporting currently. More than likely additional charges are now accruing.0

I don't understand - the property has been sold, we have a figure for the shortfall, why would additional charges be accruing?0

It seems like the provider has written the debt off and passed it to a third party (a DCA)
If so, your current file is correct as of now, but the DCA may add the record in the next few weeks.0
