    While noting the comments on here the rules have become less strict since April. Only armed forces personnel get automatic priority and the old you must live or work in that borough rules don't apply for new shared ownership homes except where the council put a requirement in place with the original planning approval. The salary limits are higher too - you can earn up to £80k outside the capital and £90k in London and still be eligible. But then for some homes in zones 1 and 2 - you need to be earning nearly £90k to afford the cost.

    It's not for everyone but it does offer the chance to live in a nicer area or live in a bigger place and providing you pay your rent security of tenure which you don't get renting privately. Often resales are better than new builds as the rent on the bit you don't own is usually lower.

    All homes in London and the south east are usually listed here - good luck - but do your research.
