Skype microphone not working Help!

I have a lenovo tablet with Skype 6.34.0.715/435 installed. Internet connection all fine, but I can't get the microphone to work. I can hear the other side, but they can't hear me.

I have watched YouTube videos and searched the forums, but still the microphone is permanently disabled.

Please can anyone help?

Are you able to access Control Panel > Audio devices and check that volume is up and the Mute box is not ticked?
  • I do not have access to the control panel within Skype. The list in settings makes no mention of video and audio calls. I can hear then, they can't hear me. I have spent three days trying to work it out!

Presumably you are testing it with the Echo/Sound Test in Skype - it's not as simple as the Mic icon not being pressed when you start the call is it? I've just tried it on a tablet running the same version and it doesn't remember the mic setting between calls.

Failing that, I'd uninstall and re-install Skype. There isn't a separate microphone setting in android that I can see.

That would be your tablets control panel or settings .
  • The audio profile for the tablet are preset and nothing written about volume or a mute box. Think I will close everything, uninstall and reinstall. I'll let you know how that goes!
  • Uninstalled and reinstalled Skype, but microphone remains on mute as before and clicking it doesn't unmute it. Any other suggestions please? My phone bill is 80 quid after 8 days!
  • Texting on Skype and the times aren't showing either, so I don't know what times messages are received. This is most odd/

Which tablet is it? You need to ignore Skype for the time being and concentrate on the microphone settings for your tablet. You should be able to simply search for the model and microphone settings. If it is Windows, you need get into the Recording Devices dialog - this would normally be a right-click on the speaker icon in the system tray - I guess on a tablet you would hold your finger down on it to get the menu.
To err is human, but it is against company policy.
  • Its a lenovo TAB 2 A7-30. I looked at Dolby sound app, but can't see how to change any settings, all I get is a demonstration of the different settings, which all sound the same to me!

It is android then. Try installing "Microphone - Hearing Aid" to test if the mic is actually working. You can get it through the Play Store. I've put it on an android tablet with Skype already installed and you just switch it "On" in the app then noises the mic picks up are output through the speakers.
It may be your mic is dead, but that should test it, and you can uninstall it afterwards.
