An inheritance, including an interim distribution, isn't regarded as income and isn't subject to income tax. I don't think you need that form at all.

I THINK the r185 form is for the situation where, during the period of administration, the beneficiary is receiving an income from assets held in the estate, such as rent from a property. Such a rent would not be part of the inheritance, it would be a separate income.

I'm not familiar with that form. Others will correct me if I'm wrong!

It would not be normal or prudent for an executor to be making an interim distribution before the inheritance tax liability was clear, and sufficient liquid assets were available to pay it. You sound unsure about this, so why are you making a distribution now?

I recall some good guides on the HMRC manuals on this sort of distribution but finding them....
