Zurich - expensive?

I will be going Zurich soon for my holidays. I've heard that the cost of necessities (travel, food - my hotel does not provide breakfast) and leisure (sightseeing, attractions etc) is very expensive, apparently more so that any touristy destinations.
Has anyone been recently who can verify this?
By comparison, is it much more than London prices? so how much for a cup of coffee, meal in a mcdonalds for example?
When I went to Norway I was warned it would be extremely expensive but I found it to be pretty much the same as London.

A big mac on its own is around CHF7 so about a fiver, and a meal would be around £10 in Mcdonalds (its around £4.50 for a meal in the UK)
Coffee maybe around £4-£5 for a normal flat white coffee.
It is a really expensive place to go, some things are UK equivalent but its usually around 50% more expensive. AS with anywhere it depends on what you are looking for, if you want cheap you can usually find it.0 -

Thank you so much for this info.
Damn - I really must research the cost of living before booking my hols!
It's a good thing I actually do like a mcdonalds meal but not sure I could have it each day.0 -

Get some food in supermarkets (Migros or Coop), go off the main streets for cheaper places, and it's a bit cheaper on smaller towns in the area.
Great place, though

I wouldn't advocate going to McDonalds in Zurich - there are plenty of nice cafes which although a few more francs will get you a decent meal.0 -
Thank you guys.
I plan to brink some porridge (tub ones that's cooked with hot water) and some dried snacks from here anyway as I will be so sick of eating out all the time even if I can afford it.
Luckily Zurich is kinda small huh, so not too difficult to travel out of city centre to find more affordable places to eat.0
