Hi All,
I’m driving north with my family on Sunday and am looking for a nice area to have a picnic and may be a walk (possibly with a play park). I’ll be heading up the A1 and want to find somewhere around an hour south of Darlington. I don’t know the area but was thinking of somewhere around the A59 junction (near the Harrogate).
It would be appreciated if anyone lives nearby or knows the area and can suggest a place.
Many thanks

Junction 47 - the A59 - is a bit surrounded by fields. You could drive into Knaresborough (about 12 minutes) and park at the castle and sit in the castle gardens or Bebra Garden, just below the castle. If you can't find a car parking space at the castle, there's another car park in the town centre which you will pass the sign for.
There's toilets in both car parks.
Alternatively there's a service station at Junction 46 (Moto = M&S, Costa and Burger King, all fairly new)0 -
Knaresborough, or 10 minutes further north and visit Masham. A lovely market town with riverside walks and 2 breweries!0

A59 towards York. 1 minute drive to Green Hammerton. Lovely little play park and cricket pitch for a walk around and picnic. 2 pubs and a small shop in village if you need it.

Thanks for all the suggestions, I thought that I'd provide an update.
We went to Knaresborough in the end, parked by the castle. Plenty of benches and fantastic views, and then had a walk by the river.
Daveswife - I like the sound of Green Hammerton, with 2 pubs and a cricket pitch I think that might make it onto my retirement list!!!
Thank you all again0
