Half price fares in London if you are on Income Support

Londoners on Income Support, who are not already receiving any free or discounted travel concessions, may be able to travel for half price. They need an Oyster card, backed up by a photocard, which confirms they receive Income Support. The photocard is available from the post office.

You must fulfil all of the following criteria to apply for this discount card. You must be:

• A London resident
• Over 18 and under 60
• Claiming Income Support
• Not currently receiving any free or discounted travel concessions (such as a Freedom Pass or a New Deal photocard)

You also get a further 10% off (think this starts the end of the month), bringing a single journey down to just 45p.

I just picked up the new 'Guide to Fares and Tickets' brochure (valid from 2 Jan 2009) and it looks like the scheme is coming back!

On p.11 it says

Londoners on Income Support can apply for a Bus & Tram Discount photocard to get half adult-rate Oyster single fares and Bus & Tram Pass season tickets. Adult fares are payable otherwise
