What is Proof Of Residence

Options
Hi
A referencing agency i am using yo vet my tenants are awaiting proof of residence from the Lithuanian husband who is the prospective tenant. What does this mean? Proof that he can live in Uk by showing an ID card that is Lithuanian . Or is it proof that he has lived at previous rented accommodation?

They also need to see recent tax return as he is self employed. What will they do with the tax return when they see it.....go by what it says or make calls to HMRC??

Thanks

Proof of residence will be his passport showing he is permitted to reside in the UK.

    See

I doubt they want his tax return (he could write anything) - probobly HMRC's statement of tax .

This post details some of the legally required checks required:

If he is Lithuanian, from an EU country, he doesn't need permission to reside or indefinite leave to remain in his passport.

The letting agent is trying to establish his residence history in the UK and he can furnish council tax bills, bank statements or utility bills to evidence his address history.

As a self-employed individual, an HMRC SA Online tax calculation for 2014/15 and SA Online tax year overview for the same period evidences his income and that the appropriate tax has been paid for the last year.
