ESA and PIP

I have just been put in the support group for ESA and I was wondering if this in any way helps with a PIP decision as I am going to tribunal for PIP in 2 weeks time.

Although these are two different benefits, PIP for care and mobility needs and ESA - capability for work, there is some (IMO) some crossover in the descriptors.

So, basically what descriptor did you meet to meet the ESA support group criteria?

Or did you get into the Support Group through special regs?

If you think that the information on your assessment report for ESA satisfies any of the descriptors for PIP then it may be worthwhile sending/taking your award letter/assessment report to your PIP tribunal.

I'm not actually sure what descriptors I met. I rang them today because my ESA assessment was 6 weeks ago and they told me over the phone that I had been put in the support group. I assume the paper work will arrive soon.

It is certaintly a good idea to make the tribunal panel aware of your ESa decision.

    Good Luck with the tribunal.

Here is some info which could be of use:

Different criteria so they're supposed to be considered seperately, but an advocate group i've seen said they'd had feedback of clients who's ESA/PIP awards had influenced the other.

If anything on the ESA report supports the descriptors for PIP then i'd say its well worth including it for your tribunal. But donlt rely on the fact you're in the support group to get PIP. I was in the support group for 3 1/2 years but only got low rate DLA (probably should have challenged that at the time but wasnt well enough too :o )

When I applied for PIP I sent them my ESA medical report ESA85 along with doctors letters for support, And I got a paper based award. So I think it does help.
  • Hey everyone I have a question about the esa 6 month rule and was wondering if anyone could help?

Ny partner tried to apply for Esa contribution based and was declined however he was asked to go for a assent meant because he was receiving NI contributions, he failed to attend because he wasn't aware he had to go, so last week he tried to claim and was told he had to attend a medical first due to a previous disallowance and so we cancelled the claim

Does my partner have to wait 6 months from the first assessment of 6 months from last week?

    Thanks
