Monitor / Graphics card problem.

Currently have a problem with my ATI Radeon 9200 graphics card and Samtron 94V tft monitor as follows:

Have always used it at a resolution of 1280 x 1024 without any problems, but recently it has displayed a message advising that the resolution should be set to the optimum possible of 1280 x 1024 !. It then goes blank.

Windows can be accessed by pressing F8 and choosing "enable vga mode".

It is not possible to set the resolution any higher than 1028 x 768 without losing the display.

Have reinstalled graphics and monitor drivers without any success.

Any ideas ?

Id try uninstalling the driver, use driver cleaner, then reinstall the latest one.

  • Try turning the colour depth and display frequency down to the lowest possible, while setting the display size to 1280 x 1024
Ever get the feeling you are wasting your time?

Colour depth has been set to 16 bit and frequency to 60Hz, click on apply and the screen goes black.

Have to restart Windows to do anything else.

I will try to remove all reference to the ATI drivers in safe mode and also re-seat the card and see what happens.

Following lots of playing around, it appears that this is a known problem with tft / lcd monitors.

I contacted Samsung this morning, who advised that they will be swapping it out free of charge within the next 3-5 working days as it has a 3 - year warranty.

Samsung UK were very helpful and the chap seemed to know exactly what he and I were talking about.
  • I've recently purchased a Samsung LCD monitor/tv (SM225MW) and had a similar problem. They recommend a resolution of 1680 x 1050 at 60Hz. I have ATI Radeon Express 200 graphics. I could set the resolution at the recommended but each time the pc was switched off then on again the resolution changed to the lowest and same message to set resolution to optimum appeared on the screen! The CD ROM, containing drivers, supplied with the monitor is faulty so I downloaded the correct relevant driver from Samsung Support section of their website and all now seems to be OK. Have you tried that? You need to enter or find your monitor model first.
I found the opposite with Samsungs tech support, they were less than helpful. I ended up sorting it out myself in spite of them.

It is definately a monitor fault, it is just under 2 years ld and has been working fine up until abut 10 days ago.

Drivers on disc for card and monitor worked perfectly.

It has always been set to a resolution of 1280 x 1024, but recently it has displayed a message advising that the resolution should be set to the optimum of 1280 x 1024 !. It then goes blank.

Hopefully the replacement monitor should resolve it.

    Thanks.

I should have read properly and digested your first post.:o
Hope the replacement sorts the problem though.

Samsung have today swapped the monitor for what looks to be a brand new one. (Boxed, wrapped and no marks visible)

Resolution can now be set to whatever I desire !
