Child tax/ working tax credits

Hi my wife stays at home while I go out to work, we claim tax and working tax credits due to low wage. If I gave up my job and my wife went out to work the same amount of hours as me, would that be a new claim? or would we be able to just change the person who is working? any advice would be appreciated thanks

Just let them know your last day of work, her first day, and how many hours she'll be working.

Remember, that if there's a gap between the two (say, you finish on Friday, and she starts working the following Monday), that you might have a couple of days where you're not entitled to as much, for example by not fulfilling the criteria for the 30-hour element.

There would be no gap in entitlement provided the jobs ended and started within 28 days of each other.
