Massive Hike Since Ovo Installed Smart Metres
Good morning,
Has anyone else experienced a massive hike in their energy bills since having smart metres installed? Ovo installed ours in December and we have just had a bill for the first full quarter since. Our electric usage has doubled but our gas has increased 4 times compared to the same period last year. The bill covers from 21 January to 21st April. We have been with Ovo for a few years and pay by monthly direct debit.

You say your bill has doubled but has your consumption ?
Were the previous bills based on Estimated readings?
Has your previous tariff run out and have you reverted to a standard tariff?
As a first step go back through your previous bills and see if you can assess your actual consumptions.Never pay on an estimated bill. Always read and understand your bill0 -
Is that 'actual' usage doubled/quadrupled?
Or were any of the previous(pre-smart meter)bills based on estimated meter readings - including those of the same period last year?
It is relatively easy to check the accuracy of the electricity meter. Just turn off everything(including fridge/freezer) and put on a known load, without a thermostat, for an hour.0
