PayPal, need help resolving "Lift limits" situation

Hello MSE Members,

I am experiencing a very difficult situation via my PayPal account, I have been a member of PayPal and eBay since 2011. So, today I logged into my PayPal account only to be greeted with a message saying "PayPal is constantly working to ensure security by regularly screening the accounts in our system. We recently reviewed your account, and we need more information to help us provide you with a secure service. We would like to return your account to regular standing as soon as possible. We apologise for the inconvenience."

Followed by this "15 May 2016: You have received €1,800 or more in total payments to your PayPal account in this calendar year and are therefore approaching our annual receiving limit of €2,500. PayPal is required by law to comply with European Union Anti-Money Laundering regulations by collecting information from customers when they receive more than €2,500 in total payments within a calendar year. Please go to the Resolution Centre for more information on what you need to do."

Now this has confused me as I don't think that I have received over £1,300 or €1,800 approx, unless this means money that's come into my PayPal account and left my PayPal account. I then have to go to the Resolution Centre on PayPal which asks me to resolve an issue (Lift limits) or my account will restricted in 120 days. So, I did what was asked, I clicked resolve and filled in the details (is there a difference between Building number and street number because it required both) my name, address, phone number etc and clicked Done.

This then directed me to "Verify your account using your bank account or credit card. Confirm bank account or credit card" and again I clicked 'Next' which directed me to my wallet, and my credit card details are correct and my bank account is already confirmed. Has anyone else ever been in this situation with their PayPal account before? I hope this doesn't mean that I will lose my PayPal account because I use eBay religiously to sell and buy. Thank you for taking the time to view my thread, apologies if it's long but I wanted to give as much detail as I possibly could. Also moderators, if this thread is in the incorrect forum then please feel free to move it where it belongs. Thank you :-)

Kind Regards

Androider

This is the standard review that we all go through after a certain amount of monies has been passed through the account.

PayPal do not always use the easiest of language, so go through the screens again and try and work out what they want. They will almost certainly want to verify your bank account again by paying in a small amount and asking you for the code. They will also want to see formal ID, usually a scan of a passport or driving license to make sure your name matches that on the account.

One word of warning, for some reason a few years back and despite have being verified before I had to go through it all again, and it can take more than a week - during which time your account will be blocked. The bank deposit bit for me was what held it up, PayPal said it would be a day or two, in fact that alone took nearly a week.

Thank you for the reply Soolin, I was quite worried that I had broken some rules. I have written to PayPal customer support to see if they can help me in this situation, I have tried editing, removing, adding the same bank account/debit card but changes aren't allowed. I shall send them identity documents upon request just to be safe. Thanks for your time and information, it has been highly appreciated :-)

It is always best to phone PayPal, they are usually very helpful and can talk you through things easily.

I failed to mention that this is my wife's PayPal account which we both use. My wife isn't very good with her communication via telephone so it's all left to me, if my wife gives her consent that I am able to talk on behalf of her then I could possibly have an outcome which I'm hoping for, I always sort out accounts, paperwork, phone calls etc. As soon as she has awoken from her slumber I shall get her to call PayPal with me by her side and ask them to talk to me. Do you think this would be allowed? :-)

Paypal are not like a bank in so much as you can't have a joint account. I would be very careful at telling them you have access to her account.

Your wife really needs to ring and have the conversation herself, taking notes of what they say she needs to do to confirm her account.

Thank you theonlywayisup, I shall get my wife to call them right away. I'll just write down the basics of what the problem is, she can explain then that her account is on the brink of becoming limited and wants to know what is needed to be done in order for resolution. I shall not mention that I have access to her PayPal account, my mouth shall stay shut. Thanks for the heads up :-)

I don't think you have anything to worry about. I had this in both of my accounts recently - I think it happens when the TOTAL amount you received is approaching the limit threshold (£1600?). This include the money that have since left your account. I did what you did (my bank accounts were also verified already) - Paypal then closed the case and no problem happened since.
