    Sounds reasonable to me.

You can still ask if he will accept ending your tenancy earlier.

We would be happy either way. We understand we need to pay to the end of the month but a little bit of money back wouldn't hurt.

A while ago my EA did this for me as new LL insisted we moved 3 weeks earlier that we wanted too. I had a partial refund as the flat got rented quickly.

We live in an amazing flat in a sort after area where rentals get snapped up, I also think LL will rent for more money so hopefully neither side will loose out.

When you moved your rent payment date to the 10th, did you at that point pay your landlord a bit extra to cover those 10 days?

If not, you are still paying each month for 1st-31st, you are just paying it late (by agreement) on 10th. So your payment on 10th June is really still to cover 1st-30th June and if you leave on 30th June you won't be due anything back.

If you did make an extra small payment when you changed dates, then your payment on 10th June is genuinely for 10th June - 9th July and you would want to agree a reduction to take out those July days.
  • For example paid 1st July - 10th August then 10th of the month there after.

This is what I stated above, so yes we paid the extra bit.

So we are just going to pay 10th June to month end

    As Pixie says:

    1) when your fixed term ended, a Statutory Periodic tenancy started (as per the Housing Act 1988 section 5)

    2) Changing your rent date did not change your tenancy periods. These are still 1st tolast day of each month

    3) to end your tenancy on last day of June, you must serve written notice on/before 1st June

    4) since you have already paid till 9th June, your rent on 10th June should cover the daily rate from 10th - 30th June

Of course, you can agree any other tenancy end date (and rent) by agreement.

Yes that exactly what I meant. We want to notify the LL on 1st June pay till 30th June.
If possible I suggest you do it a few days earlier to avoid the notice being served late. Depends on how you are going to serve the notice of course but a few days early is better than one day late. e.g. If you are posting the notice first class you must allow at least two working days. If emailing, does your tenancy agreement allow service by email? If hand delivering during office hours then I think you can rely on notice being served same day.
  • We exchange on the 31st May so tight timeframe.

    It'll be emailed which isn't a problem.

Does your tenancy allow notice by email?
