Advice on chain/completion date

Hi
We are in the process of moving and have been trying to organise a completion date for a few weeks. Our buyers are currently in rented accomadation and requested a date at the beginning of May which as un achievable due to the rest of the chain. We then didn't hear from them for a few weeks whikst we dealt with a few snags on our end. Then last week it was put to us a date of which we are unable to do as we are away on hols, they had never mentioned this date in the past or agreed to it. Our buyers solicitors have now requested we pay towards their rent for a further 2 weeks?? We have said no as we have never agreed to the date or been able to move that weekend, do you think this was the correct response?

Comments

  • I would have said exactly the same. It seems completely unreasonable for them to seek compensation for something like basic living costs, even if you had previously agreed that date, they would have been paying the mortgage rather than rent anyway?! The cheek.

On the assumption you haven't exchanged, no chance.
