Retrospective Planning Permission - Fencing Height?

All round this is a bad idea for old folks who tend to want a maintenance free life style.
Put it another way, my father in law was on my roof in 2014 helping to re-design the gable after our architect messed-up. He was then aged 79.0 -
Some older people want that kind of lifestyle and others don't get a choice, but there's a third group....

I am in awe of some older folks so I second this.
Going off topic somewhat, I called in at a Methodist Chapel two weeks ago for a coffee. I was passing by, and the sign outside enticed me in for a cuppa. I was told the organist was a lovely lady - fit, active, and still driving around the countryside. Then the reality check was dropped in - she is 100 years old next year!
All credit to her, and I would love to meet her at a future event and give her a friendly shake of the hand.0 -

But they have to opt into that having all the facts, most older folks like me are on a mission not to give up, sometimes their kids if armed with the full picture know best:A:A:AI like the thanks button, but ,please, an I agree button.
Will the grammar and spelling police respect I do make grammatical errors, and have carp spelling, no need to remind me.;)
Always expect the unexpected:eek:and then you won't be dissapointed0 -
Thank you all for your feedback! They are still very active and are not in anyway looking for a maintenance free lifestyle - they currently run the local show garden group. However, no-one knows what the future holds - I agree.
There is precedence in the area, however looking through the planning permission portal, none of these have sought planning permission to put these in place.
They have decided to go ahead and request planning permission, I think more to not feel as though they have been intimidated into immediate submission by their neighbour than anything else. I did gently suggest maybe there could be an alternative, such as Leylandii but they're pretty set on course for now - the Leylandii will come out as Plan B if they fail I think!
Appreciate all of the comments and advice, thank you! Such a shame that neighbourly disputes like this arise on all sides in the first place!0 -
If they want privacy mainly in summer, then a group of silver birch "ermanii" casts only light shade, leafs up quickly and looks good all year round.
Mind you, if they are running the local gardening club, your folks will already know that!0 -
They are our regular "garden hotline" advisors for everything garden related
It's like having your own personal Monty Don on the end of the phone!!!!
Though, I do always feel somewhat embarrassed when they come to stay - our garden is in the early stages (as we only moved into the overgrown mess a month and a half ago) - rather than anywhere near their gorgeous show garden standards!0
