insurance claim for bath damage

Options
Have never claimed before so would appreciate any advise.

Damaged a bath by broken glass door, we have only one bathroom so no showering until it gets fixed! Insurance surveyor would take 3-4 days to come down for assessment. It has become a real problem as i need to go to work!

What are my options? What compensation can i ask for?

Thanks

Wash with a flannel! good idea but really!? How about shampooing hair. We are not living in victorian age; don't want ruin the carpet in the bathroom while doing so.

May be compensation isn't the right word. But I have been paying premium for last 20 years(okay not to the same company) to cover me when things go wrong. I am not talking about those silly whiplash claim. It is having a real impact on day to day life.

Don't think you have explained this very well, hence questioning the mention of compensation.

I take it that this is a fairly new glass door that has exploded !

This is a regular occurence, as you will see many reports online. Bad manufacture and/or wrong type of glass being installed.

If you have sustained injury, you would need to get it documented with reports.

If it is purely damage to bathroom, take plenty of pictures of the damage and keep the damaged glass door.

Unless the bath is damaged making it not water proof, just put up a temporary shower curtain, so you can continue to shower. You can buy them cheaply from many outlets.
The comments I post are personal opinion. Always refer to official information sources before relying on internet forums. If you have a problem with any organisation, enter into their official complaints process at the earliest opportunity, as sometimes complaints have to be started within a certain time frame.

"Carpet in the bathroom"? Perhaps it's you who's living in the past?

Anyway, just wash your hair in the basin while you wait for your claim to be settled.

(You still haven't said whether your bath is useable.)

It is not having any impact on you whatsoever bar the feeling of not being clean, As said wash yourself down via other means and any pay out that is due will be to fix the problem only.

There is no stress, anxiety or any other problem caused by not being able to use the bath so claim wise await the assessor and then get it fixed.

As for carpet in a bathroom that is always a no no and should be tiles or lino.

Yes, really!! For hair, use a cup to pour water over your head at the sink! It's hardly Victorian!

It's a few days of a slight inconvenience, it's hardly a 'real problem'

may be I didn't explain properly. The glass has come off and the corner stuck in bath making a 3 inch hole. when this happened someone was taking a shower and some of the water went through the hole and now I can see a wet patch in the kitchen ceiling below.

Did think of patching it up but seems too big to make repair with the resources I have at hand.

You need to wait for the assessor to come out and see the damage caused first, If you like to shower/bath every day then use a family or friends bath for now until it is fixed.

Then you'll need to wash/wash hair in the basin as already suggested, and cadge the occasional shower off friends/go to the gym/go swimming etc.

I'd start getting quotes for the work without waiting for the assessor because you're obviously going to need to get this replaced, regardless of what happens with your insurance claim.
