Both cats are not related so from different litters...not sure what help the shelter would be since all we can say is they have diarrhea but we don't know the reason yet.

Because both cats are otherwise healthy and putting on weight the vet doesn't want to throw everything at them and would rather be methodical which is all very well but £70 here and £50 there soon mounts up!

Raw diet stockist is shut on Wednesday...will go back tomorrow!

Poor babies - and poor you!

I do hope you soon get to the bottom of this (no pun intended!). It's good to hear that the kittens are putting on weight and seem generally healthy.

I used to think that exponents of raw feeding were a bit extreme. However, my 2 adult cats were switched to raw several years ago and are doing very well on it. I'm lucky in that there is a local firm who produce the food and deliver for a very reasonable charge.

One of the best things from my point of view is that the litter tray doesn't smell anything like as badly as it used to!

I have the same thing with one of our cats.

She always had "wetter" stools, I once had to buy a budget food as the supermarket didn't have kit-e-kat. Then she was just passing water. All the tests came back negative, got put on royal canin - stopped her "leaking" around the house and made her only go 1 or two times a day rather than the 5/6 previously.

I tried her on raw chicken and rice (she didn't like the rice and just ate around it) this made her go only once a day.

Had to try a different variety of royal canin when she ran out of the sensitivity - seemed to set her bowels to normal time.

Finally saw a formed turd 2 days ago. Seems to be persistence rather than a miracle cure. We're talking about 8 months.

    Hope it settles soon.

A development today, this morning one of the cats threw up a dozen roundworm onto the bathroom floor.

They were both treated in Feb first with Panacur then Drontal+ but there was no sign of any worm in their stools.

The Zithromax they are on for cryptosporidium can have an effect on worms because it kills bacteria in the worms gut which stops the worm being able to function.

Going back to the vet for some more Panacur tomorrow but slightly confused as the vet says they can come off the Zithromax if the Panacur cures the problem.

    Was crypto a mis-diagnosis?

Just gave them a dessert spoon of http://www.naturalinstinct.com/raw-cat-food they love it, thanks again paddypaws!

    Good they like the food.
Ask vet for Milbemax maybe....small tablet so easier to give than Drontal and far less messy than Panacur
Edit....you can buy Panacur over the counter or online, but vet needs to dispense Milbemax

Just given them both Panacur, 1.5 and 2ml, have to put it in slowly otherwise yes it is messy :)

They are on Panacur for a week and the remaining Zithromax until the first bottle is empty, 2-3 days.

Vet has offered to refund the unused Zithromax as it hasn't been opened yet.

When we switched from a dry food to wet the one cat who was leaking diarrhea stopped after 2 days.

Fingers crossed now for the next few days.

    sounds more positive.

stools will firm up with raw. you can make your own but it takes research & effort to do this correctly - incorrectly can also damage cats health.

there's a facebook group for this on completely raw fed cats - with files/recipesof what to do. I prefer to feed chunks & my remaining cats won't eat liver or kidney & isn't keen on raw egg yolks so it's 50% tinned to ensure her nutrition is complete.
