Face-to-face assessments compulsory?

Hi everyone,

Does everyone have to have a face-to-face assessment for PIP?

I ask this because I understood that a face-to-face assessment for ESA was the norm but I have never had one, they've awarded it based on medical evidence. With PIP looming, I'm wondering whether it is possible that a PIP decision could be done on medical evidence so a face-to-face medical isn't needed?

Does anyone know?
Thanks
Alex

  • From everything I've heard and read about PIP seems that a face to face is more likely than it is with ESA, however isn't it always the case that the better job of filling the forms in and the more back up you supply then the less need for a face to face?

Well I didn't require a face to face assessment for my PIP award. I was only awarded Standard Rate, Daily living component and I got 11 points. 1 Point off enhanced. I even got a decision maker who phoned to discuss my points with me and she tried to award me the other one but couldn't.

So DWP do make awards based on paper evidence. I got awarded it for 5 year. So i'm quite happy with that.

The theory was that the vast majority of PIP claimants would have face to face meetings as there was a perception that an unacceptably high proportion of DLA claims were being paid on the basis of inaccurate / exaggerated statements on the paper claims. What proportion of PIP claimants actually have face to face interviews I don't know.
