Paying off a cash withdawal Halifax Clarity

The question regarding the DD is because I had always thought that as long as you paid more than a certain time before the DD was to be taken, then the DD would be adjusted or not taken at all if you had paid in full.
We recently paid off a BOS interest free CC and called them to check the procedure. They said if we paid at least 10 working days before the DD (minimum payment) date then it would not be taken. Looking later on their website, we found it actually said 4 working days.
We made the payment some 12 working days before and the DD was indeed not applied.
However, 2 years ago, having used my Clarity card for purchases and one cash withdrawal in Germany, once the statement was prepared I paid in the cash amount plus some extra just a couple of days later. However, the full DD (full statement amount) was still taken, which was not what I had expected.0 -
DDs are really popular here - almost achieving god-like status. I'm a heretic and will suggest you cancel your DD and just send the payments you want to send when you want to send them - you're back in control and there are no doubts. No risk of an expectedly large DD hitting your current account.
Bear in mind also that with internet banking you can usually set up payments a couple of weeks in advance if that's suits you.
But hopefully somebody will be along shortly to explain their experience of DDs and Clarity...

If paying off cash listed on the statement after the statement is prepared and the DD amount set (we pay in full), will the DD amount eventually taken be reduced by the amount already paid off?Have you checked the statement? Pretty often they have the information you want.
E.g. Halifax: "Manual payments received 4 clear working days before the payment due date will reduce or stop the D/D [sic]..."0 -

If you still want them to collect the minimum by DD you should make any additional payment no earlier than two working days before the due date.0 -
I didn't want, or expect, them to still take the full DD, but 2 years back they did.
This month with BOS it worked just as expected. No DD taken.
Cannot do away with DDs as we can often be several days without internet when away abroad.0 -
I only use Direct Debits where there is some saving involved.

'My next statement will be prepared on the25th, previous statement has been paid a few days back.'
This is just before the statement is issued rather than before the DD is due, no? I usually track the Credit Balance available value. Once I see that it falls below my credit limit, I top it back up to restore the number back to the credit limit. This responds within hours, so it is fairly up to date.
