    Has never let me down, instant threat attack advice pop-ups, daily updates.

    Went from Norton anti-virus to Kaspersky.

    Sunbelt Personal Firewall or Comodo are good choices.

    A router will work as a port blocker which is reasonably effective for incoming attacks. Combine that with a "software" firewall such as Sunbelt or Comodo and you have a good combination for protection.
