Insurance Conundrum

I've got the opportunity to work in India for a year. The company will cover health insurance but not travel insurance. I have pre-existing medical conditions. To get travel insurance with pre-existing medical conditions for a year would cost a fortune. But as I'll have seperate complete health insurance, I don't require medical coverage. But most travel insurance would be void if I didn't declare my medical conditions, right? And in declaring them it would cost a fortune. This is the condundrum. Thoughts / experiences?

If you will be living and working in India with health insurance provided, and not traveling, what would be the purpose of having travel insurance?Evolution, not revolution0

There will be some travelling at some point. I'll get holidays like any other job so will want to see country. And I guess the other stuf that travel insurance gives you - cover for posessions and travel arrangements etc.0

So it may be worth looking for advice about Indian insurance providers who could offer you cover while you are resident there.moneysaver183 wrote: »There will be some travelling at some point. Why not ask the insurance company that'll be covering the health part of it if you can upgrade the policy to cover other stuff you want?Change is inevitable, except from a vending machine.0

You could look at policies such as WorldNomads which will a) cover this duration and b) not require your trips to be starting and ending in the UK0 -
When you buy an insurance policy you have to declare pre existing conditions, but you can decline cover for them. Whether you declare and accept the cover, or declare and decline the cover, your policy will be endorsed accordingly. A standard annual policy doesn't cover for trips of a year. Each policy has a maximum number of days one trip can be within the validity of the annual policy eg 28, 35, 60, 90. So it wouldn't cover you for the entire 12 months. Only for the maximum trip duration the policy allows. Most policies also require all trips to start and end in the UK, so 'holidays' taken while you're in India wouldn't be covered.
You either need a more specialist policy.0
