Address made public

I recently discovered that my home address is available just by googling my name as I am a director (unpaid) of my residents association which is a limited company albeit non-profit making. I am very uncomfortable with this. Is there anything I can do to keep my address private?

You can use any address which you can access to collect mail.

Bit late now unless you are prepared to move.
Companies such as 192.com make the electoral roll searchable too although you can opt out of publication - https://www.gov.uk/electoral-register/opt-out-of-the-open-register
True privacy died sometime around the turn of the century and probably earlier.Just about everybody has leaked some personal data that can be found on the web. The only question is why would anybody bother to look. If somebody has a personal grudge and wants to find you they will do so regardless.0 -
You don't have to provide your home address to Companies House, but you do have to provide an address where documents can be served on you.
You can use the registered address of the company as your service address. This would normally be with your accountant or managing agent.
Bear in mind though that all Directors have a legal responsibility to ensure that all statutory returns are submitted on time. I had a situation a few years ago where our annual return had not been returned due to negligence by our managing agent and company secretary. I, and my fellow directors, only learned of this because we received letters from Companies House. If those letters had gone to the agent, it would have taken a lot longer for us to discover the problem.0 -
Just to cheer you up, my name, date of birth, previous address and former occupation are available via a google search.
All in connection with being a company director for the management company of some properties, which ended in 2006.Move along, nothing to see.0 -
Rather like having your email address compromised, and having to change it, you may need to move house and ensure that you avoid having your new address 'known', as far as possible. Electoral register entries should be looked at, for example.0
